While Black people accompanied the first Europeans who explored and open the Western hemisphere Negroes did not come with the English on their explorations in the New World.

Pedro Alonzo Nino, the pilot of Columbus’ ship Nina, is identified by some scholars as a Negro.

Nefo de Olana was among thirty Blacks to rediscover the Pacific Ocean with Balboa.

Blacks were with Cortez when he conquered  Mexico and Pazzaro when he conquered Peru.

The most outstanding Black explorer was Estevanico. He claimed Arizona and New Mexico for Spain in 1539.
