Jackie Robinson
In 1947 Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play Major League Baseball when he signed to play with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Hiss success opened doors for blacks to enter all professional sports.

Alice Coachman Davis
In 1948 Alice Coachman Davis won the High Jump at the Olympics in London, England. She became the first African American woman to win the Olympic Gold Metal.
